MAIS OU SONT LES BIBLIOTHEQUES D'ANTAN?

Here’s another old newspaper cutting featuring someone called John Rimmer, this time it is actually about me. This comes from a copy of the Psychic News of October 12, 1985 (a glimpse of the era is given by the main headline: ‘Brixton riots fail to stop church service’) given to me by Geraldine Beskin of the incomparable Atlantis Bookshop in Museum Street, London. (If you’re in London, go there and buy a book, that’s an order!).

JOHN RIMMER'S FLYING SAUCER

I was intrigued to find the following article in The Times on-line archive for September 15, 1956. As far as I know, Corporal Rimmer is no relation:

CORPORAL RIMMER'S FLYING SAUCER
THREE-POINT LANDINGS TO ORDER

From Our Correspondent

Corporal John Rimmer, aged 21, who looks after the bedding stores at the Valley RAF station, Anglesey, has been a model aircraft builder for 15 years. Turning his mind to the future, he has, with the cooperation of Senior Aircraftman L. Reeder, another modelling enthusiast at the station, perfected a working model of a flying saucer in the accepted Martian tradition. Diesel powered, it can even be worked by radio control.

VISITING WARMINSTER AND COMING TO A DECISION

On August Bank Holiday Saturday (23rd August 2008, to our American and Scottish readers) I paid a nostalgic visit to Cradle Hill, Warminster, along with arch-hoaxer and Warminster veteran, Dave Simpson. For a couple of years now Kevin Goodman, author of UFO Warminster Cradle of Contact, has been organising skywatch revival events with fellow author Steve Dewey (In Alien Heat) in order to, in his own words, ‘keep the flame burning’.
