REMEMBERING PETER

I first met Peter Rogerson in April 1970 when I was invited, at his suggestion, to speak at a meeting of the DIGAP UFO Group, which was based in Manchester. A few months before then he had written to the Merseyside UFO Bulletin (MUFOB) which John Harney and I were publishing from Liverpool. His letter was full of what were for more conventional ufologists of the era, wild and probably dangerous ideas, suggesting a link between UFOs and psychic phenomena.

JIM MOSELEY 1931 -2012

A day or two after I heard the sad news of the death from cancer of Jim Moseley – the ‘Supreme Commander’ of Saucer Smear magazine - I saw an item on the TV news about the last ever typewriter to be manufactured in Britain, by the Brother company of North Wales. The machine is to be donated to the Science Museum. What could be the connection between these two events? They represent to me the passing of an era.

HILARY EVANS. 1929 - 2011

I can’t remember exactly when I first met Hilary Evans, I imagine it was at a BUFORA event. I do know that it was sometime in the 1970s that I received a cheque from him for a subscription to what was then MUFOB magazine. I was intrigued that it was a company cheque from something called ‘Saturday Ventures’ which gave the impression of someone working hard through the week, who on Saturdays would have all sorts of intriguing and exciting projects to occupy themselves. Which was actually pretty close to the truth.

ALVIN LAWSON (1929 - 2010)

I was saddened to learn of the recent death of Alvin Lawson, at the age of 80. He was best known in ufological circles for his promotion of the 'Birth Trauma' hypothesis for UFO abductions. He was a professor of English at California State University, Long Beach.
